The Mòd returns to Oban in 2024 – what does that mean for us?
For eight days in October, Oban will be bustling with thousands of Gaels, competitors, fringe revellers, BBC TV crews, renowned musicians, creatives and entrepreneurs. Every one of these groups will be making the most of Oban’s renowned hospitality, with an expected economic benefit of 2-3 million pounds for the town.
Iomall a’ Mhòid – The Mòd Fringe
A huge range of events will be taking place throughout the year and during Mòd week, all related to the celeberation of Gaelic culture. Exhibitions, competitions, concerts, cèilidhs, talks and more will be taking place across the town and further afield, on top of the bustling live music scene that will be found in the pubs.
What does Mòd week look like?
- Sat-Wed is a family-oriented affair, with junior competitions taking place, and competitors and attendees looking for quick bites during the day.
- Wed marks the start of the senior competitions.
- Thur & Fri are the choir competitions with ~ 15 choirs each day with up to 35 members each competing. They will be seeking lunch and dinner reservations and heading to pubs and bars in the afternoon and evenings to enjoy live music. Attendees will be looking for spontaneous activities and businesses to enjoy during the day and expect food and drink offers to be available until late.
